RxSchool Offers Free Continuing Education in Celebration of National Pharmacy Week
New web-based software provides complete web-based continuing education management for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
DENVER - Pharmacy Choice, Inc. (http://www.PharmacyChoice.com) a Denver-based provider of web-based services for the pharmacy industry, announced the launch of its new RxSchool web site (http://www.RxSchool.com), an on-line education portal for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
The original version of the RxSchool web site was launched over a year ago and has already provided thousands of pharmacists and certified pharmacy technicians with access to continuing education courses. In addition, RxSchool is home to RxTechSchool (http://www.RxTechSchool.com), which offers the leading on-line training program for pharmacy technicians who are preparing for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam. Some of the industry's largest chains are currently using the RxTechSchool program.
The new web site provides automated on-line assessments, instant printing of certificates and tracking tools for the management of continuing education credits and certificates. "Our goal was to build an easy to use web site with more than just quality educational content," said Steve Croke, President of Pharmacy Choice. "We analyzed feedback from our users and designed the new web site with their needs in mind. All of our products are specific to the pharmacy industry and RxSchool is no exception."
With the growing popularity of web-based continuing education in recent years, the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), in conjunction with a task force appointed by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, has been working on developing new guidelines for Computer-Based Continuing Pharmaceutical Education Programs. "The RxSchool site has been reviewed by the ACPE and they have confirmed that RxSchool meets all of the proposed guidelines," said Rich Barnhart, Vice President of Pharmacy Choice. The ACPE's proposed guidelines for computer based educational programs include securing user data and taking steps to reduce the user's ability to manipulate continuing education statements of credit. "The RxSchool instant certificate system was designed with the ACPE guidelines in mind and we are currently in compliance with those guidelines," said Barnhart. "The secure login area is SSL encrypted and our certificates are virtually fraud-proof."
Providing affordable continuing education and assuring state compliance are at the heart of the new RxSchool system. More and more companies are reimbursing their employees for education and managing compliance with state continuing education requirements can be a daunting task. RxSchool provides custom solutions for any size company, from the local hospital to the largest national drug store chain. "Our customers want to provide their employees with quality education while making sure they are in compliance with state continuing education requirements," said Croke, "and our custom continuing education libraries are designed to meet these needs while reducing IT headaches and associated costs for the employers".
The RxSchool web site currently offers continuing education courses on a variety of topics ranging from "Drug Induced Nutrient Depletion" to "Pharmacy Spanish" - all accredited by ELF Publications, an ACPE accredited provider and publisher of Community Pharmacist journal. RxSchool and ELF Publications are committed to building the largest pharmacy continuing education library on the Internet with new courses available every month. In recognition of National Pharmacy Week, RxSchool is offering free CE to registered pharmacists and pharmacy technicians through the end of November. After November users may continue to access their accounts and use the management tools for free.

PHARMACY CHOICE TO PROVIDE ONLINE CERTIFICATION COURSE FOR PHARMACY TECHNICIANS
Denver-Based Company Among the First to Offer Comprehensive Online Training for Pharmacy Technicians
DENVER - Pharmacy Choice, Inc. (http://www.PharmacyChoice.com) a Denver-based provider of Web-based services for the pharmacy industry, today announced the launch of RxTechSchool.com, http://www.RxTechSchool.com, the best online pharmacy technician certification prep course of its kind. With many pharmacies feeling the pressure of the pharmacist shortage the industry has seen in recent years, companies are turning to pharmacy technicians to fill the gap, and the company's new product offering meets the needs of pharmacy professionals.
Traditionally working as assistants, pharmacy technicians are now taking on a more active role in the pharmacy setting, allowing pharmacists more time for management and cognitive services. With this greater responsibility comes the need for increased competency. Many industry professionals believe that technicians should be certified in order to instill confidence in pharmacists and consumers. Certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board is currently voluntary; however, by January 2001, Texas will require all technicians to be certified, and other states are expected to follow Texas' lead.
"While ensuring competency is important, most technicians have difficulty finding the time to study for the certification exam," said Steve Croke, president of Pharmacy Choice. "Unfortunately, enrolling in a traditional class means disrupting the technician's work schedule, and taking an employee out of an already over worked pharmacy. By establishing RxTechSchool.com as an online training and certification alternative, technicians can maintain their work schedule and not have to worry about losing a paycheck while they prepare for the exam."
The online program is accessible at anytime, from anywhere the student can access a computer with an Internet connection, giving technicians the flexibility to study for the exam according to their schedule and pace. Pharmacy Choice will provide Internet access to those technicians who do not already have access.
The RxTechSchool.com course is more than sufficient to prepare technicians to pass the certification exam. In fact, 95% of the students who used this program in its traditional format successfully passed the exam the first time. The course is so comprehensive that even new technicians can use the course as an introduction to the field and then go on to pass the exam with little or no experience. The virtual classroom provides for a personal touch that is missing from other on-line training solutions.
"Our instructors are constantly interacting with their students through live chat, discussion groups and personal e-mail," said Rich Barnhart, Pharmacy Choice's vice president and CTO. "In addition, as an online course we can constantly update and improve the content to keep pace with industry trends and practices."
Whether a technician's state requires certification or not, the benefits afforded by passing the exam are definitely worth the extra effort for technicians and their employers. Statistics show that certified pharmacy technicians enjoy greater job satisfaction, more responsibility, and earn higher wages than non-certified technicians. In addition, employers benefit from employing better-trained and more reliable technicians, allowing pharmacists to devote more of their time to providing patient care.
